The Rastafari Mansions and Organizations (RMO) hosted its monthly RMO Live virtual town hall to provide updates on the Triple R (Relief, Rebuild, Rise) Initiative following Hurricane Melissa. The meeting brought together Rastafari leaders, organizations, and international partners to discuss ongoing relief efforts, rebuilding strategies, fundraising initiatives, and long-term community development rooted in unity, accountability, and sustainability,
Dejazmath Kwasi presented the vision and progress of the RRR Initiative, which was approved by the RMO Administrative Board representing 14 Rastafari organizations. The initiative focuses on immediate relief, rebuilding damaged communities, strengthening food sovereignty, and promoting long-term development and repatriation efforts. Updates were also shared on the RRR GoFundMe campaign and global support received through the Webathon and partner organizations.
Ras Biah and Sis Pamela provided reports on the continued impact of Hurricane Melissa on Rastafari households and centers across Jamaica. Relief efforts have included food and medical distribution, household support, mapping of affected communities, and assistance to vulnerable elders. RCGBS reported that over 180 households have been mapped, while efforts continue to improve storage, distribution systems, and accountability measures for donations and supplies.
Additional presentations highlighted agricultural development projects, fundraising activities such as “Rastafest to the World,” and community empowerment initiatives including the Life Yard Empress Circle program supporting girls and women through care packages and health-focused activities. Discussions also explored the use of drone technology for community mapping and the potential development of hemp initiatives for medicine and sustainable building materials.
The meeting concluded with a presentation from Principal Anniona Jones of Haile Selassie High School, who outlined the school’s current challenges and invited support from the Rastafari community through mentorship, educational resources, farming initiatives, classroom adoption, and technical training programs.
Overall, the town hall reinforced the Rastafari community’s commitment to collective development, transparency, disaster recovery, and long-term empowerment through collaboration between local organizations, diaspora partners, and international supporters.
